Reserva
Dunas Verdes

A privately protected coastal reserve in Mozambique.

The Reserve

Let natureremain thedestination.

Dunas Verdes protects a rare stretch of Mozambique's coastline where ocean, reef, beach, dunes and bush exist within one connected landscape.

A working nature reserve where conservation, local communities and carefully controlled tourism coexist.

Ocean to bush, in one walk

Five habitats,one landscape.

Aerial view of the reserve: bush, dunes, beach and ocean

Coastal bush

Behind the dunes, dense coastal bush — the quietest and least visited part of the reserve.

Birds · Small mammals

Vegetated dune

The green dunes that give the reserve its name. Their grasses hold the coastline in place.

Stabilising grasses · Dune thicket

Beach

Kilometres of open sand, quiet enough at night for turtles to come ashore and nest.

Nesting turtles · Shorebirds

Shallow reef

A few hundred metres out, low rock and coral hold the fish life the whole coast depends on.

Schools of fish · Rays

Open ocean

Deep blue water a short way offshore, on the migration line followed by whales and whale sharks.

Humpback whales · Dolphins · Whale sharks

Golden sunset light drifting over the reserve's dunes, bush and surf

Everything below was filmed here, above the reserve. Nothing was staged, fed or followed. The animals were passing through, as they have always done.
